About Private AI Hardware

We believe AI should run on your terms — on your hardware, with your data, under your control.

Our Mission

Private AI Hardware was created to fill a critical gap in the AI conversation. While the tech press obsesses over the latest cloud model releases and billion-dollar funding rounds, a quiet revolution is happening in basements, home offices, and maker spaces around the world. People are running genuinely capable AI right on their own machines — and the experience is often better than what the cloud offers.

We believe that the future of AI isn't a handful of giant corporations controlling access to intelligence through API keys. It's thousands of independent operators running their own models on their own terms. It's a private AI hardware box sitting next to your router, serving your entire household. It's a laptop that can write code, translate documents, and generate images without ever phoning home.

This site is our contribution to that future. We test hardware, review software, write guides, and share everything we learn. If it runs AI locally, we want to know about it — and we want you to know about it too.

What We Cover

🖥️ Hardware Reviews

In-depth testing of GPUs, workstations, mini PCs, and purpose-built AI appliances. We measure tokens-per-second, memory bandwidth, and real-world usability — not just synthetic benchmarks. From dedicated private AI servers to compact low-power private servers, we test them all.

📦 Software Guides

Step-by-step tutorials for Ollama, llama.cpp, LocalAI, vLLM, and every other inference engine worth knowing. We cover quantization, prompt templates, context length optimization, and model selection for specific use cases.

🔧 DIY Projects

Complete build logs for AI that runs without internet connection. We build servers, configure networking, set up reverse proxies, and integrate local AI into home automation, development workflows, and content creation pipelines.

🔐 Privacy Analysis

Deep dives into the privacy implications of different AI deployment models. We compare self-hosted AI privacy against cloud alternatives, examine data handling practices, and explain what "local" really means for different architectures.

Who We Are

We're a small team of engineers, tinkerers, and privacy advocates who've been running AI locally since the Llama leak in early 2023. We've built dozens of rigs, burned out a few GPUs, debugged countless CUDA errors, and learned a lot along the way. This site is where we share those lessons.

We are not sponsored by any hardware manufacturer or AI company. Every piece of equipment we review is either purchased at retail or loaned with no strings attached. Our recommendations are based on actual testing and real-world usage, not marketing relationships.

The Privacy Imperative

The default trajectory of AI is toward centralization. A few companies build the biggest models, host them in their data centers, and charge for access. This creates an uncomfortable dynamic: to benefit from the most transformative technology of our era, you must trust a handful of corporations with your most intimate intellectual activity.

We think that's wrong. Not just philosophically wrong, but practically unnecessary. The open-source AI community has proven that models you can download and run yourself can match or exceed the quality of proprietary cloud models. The tools exist. The hardware is affordable. What's missing is knowledge — and that's what we provide.

When you read an offline AI device review on this site, our goal isn't to sell you a specific product. It's to show you that the alternative to cloud AI is real, practical, and often superior. You don't have to choose between capability and privacy. You can have both.

Looking Ahead

The pace of progress in local AI is staggering. Models that required 48 GB of VRAM six months ago now run comfortably in 12 GB thanks to advances in quantization and inference optimization. Hardware is getting faster, models are getting smaller without sacrificing quality, and the software ecosystem is maturing rapidly.

We'll be here covering every development, testing every new piece of hardware, and helping you build the private AI setup that's right for you. Whether you're looking for a ClawBox private AI appliance that works out of the box, or you want to hand-assemble a multi-GPU monster, we've got you covered.

Our Values
  • Privacy is a right, not a luxury
  • AI should be accessible to everyone
  • Open source beats proprietary
  • Real testing beats marketing claims
  • Knowledge should be shared freely
